plugs: HI MY NAME IS LUKE.
so i'm here to tell you how lovely O levels are,
and what good english is about.
'O' Levels.
yes, it does sound boring and stressful. but it ain't!
it's the reason secondary schools exist!
IF YOU DON'T WANT TO TAKE IT, YOU SHOULD HAVE QUIT SCHOOL LONG AGO.
now that statement could have negative consequences, but it's ashley's blog.
and i'm not luke. i am a huge strawberry.
psssst. so blame ashley.
now, on to good english.
that's right. here in singapore, especially in the hawker centres, we see ALOT of WHAT GOOD ENGLISH IS NOT.
elements in good english:
1)pronunciation.
2)punctuation.
3)perturbation.[what does it mean?]
good pronunciation means you say words as they're meant to be said.
like "gentle" is NOT pronounced as "genteel", or even worse, "genital". that would be tragic.
good punctuation. here's a classic example. observe the 2 following sentences.
i)I helped my Uncle, Jack, off a horse.
ii) i helped my uncle jack off a horse.
the above sentences look deceivingly similar, but in meaning, mean a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE!
don't make me explain.
perturbation means excitement. uuuuh. yes. excitement. exciting english.
stay in school! read lotsa books and eat lots of sleep!
hehe. happy april fools' to you, ashley.
